So as a DM, I LOOOOOVE improv. I use random encounter tables any time the party travels and I take it on my self to NOT look at the table beforehand so that the encounter is random to me as well. This has led to entire plots in my campaigns as random events became more serious than I expected and has led to some really cool adventures!
One of my most recent random events was, "A little girl who is a werewolf". This ended up being: The party saw a dog like creature in an alley, The trigger happy goblin shot it with an arrow. turns out it was a little girl in the form of a werewolf. She said her house was broken into by a team of lycanthropes and her parents sacrificed them selves so that she could escape. Now the party all but adopted this little girl and have already cured her and are planning on taking out the lycanthropes in the house.
I want to turn this into something deeper than a simple extermination job. I thought I'd give a shot throwing this out to the internet hive mind and see what y'all think lol
All I've got so far is the word "Moonfather" as some ominous being the lycans are doing the bidding of. I don't know WHY they're at this house in a city, i don't know who the family of this little girl was, and my plan is to just wing it on the fly lol
It would be nice to hear a bunch of random people's thoughts though so I have some inspiration to pull from!
Were the girl's parents rebels against the Moonfather? Were they running a secret "underground railroad" kind of way station for others trying to escape the Moonfather's grip? Were they even the real target? Maybe they'd just moved into the house, and the break-in was to find something left by the previous owners
Was the girl a werewolf because she was wounded in the home invasion, or was she from a family of lycanthropes? How "cured" is she, exactly? Is there something special about her that made her the real target of the attack?
Is the Moonfather even the villain here, or at least the only villain? Maybe the werewolves are just looking for a home of their own where they won't be judged and killed, and the girl's parents were werewolf hunters who had just discovered the Moonfather's true identity/location/the location of the hidden refuge

This is exactly the type of thing I was looking for! Thanks!
