Went to sleepaway camp with the original Holmes Basic Set, which came with chits instead of dice. My friends and I had a magical summer figuring out how to play.
Was looking for something to do when COVID started, so bought the player's handbook. My family then started a campaign with some close friends and we played in DoIP.
My friends played in the common area of my college dorm and till then I'd always resisted ttrpg cause I saw it as like the last bastion separating me from uncool nerddom (I was already a nerd, but I wasn't *that* kind of nerd, I would tell myself). One day though I saw them playing, watched a little, they asked if I wanted to join and I said I didn't know anything, and they helped me roll up my first character, a belligerent gnome wizard by the name of Hamish 'Haggis' McSweeney.
Mine was playing with a set of rules called chain mail about six weeks later i jumped right in with queen of the demonweb pits.

5th grade during lunch playing 1st Edition. My character was a Fighter / Magic-User named Snake Eyes.
