Hello everyone! I'm starting a nautical themed game for some players and I need whatever resources you got! Especially random encounter tables for a verity of levels and random island encounters. Thanks in advance for any help and happy gaming!!
Well... there are all the sharks I've been putting up in my Shark Week thread. Though I haven't posted them yet in the thread, I'm working on some island-themed weaponry. Polynesian, mostly.
Beyond that, there's always a solid first session: Marlin Spike. The session where your players learn how to boat. Port vs. Starboard. Fore vs. Aft. Bulkhead, head, fo'c'sle (forecastle), poop, quarterdeck, main mast, mizzen mast. Knots. Many knots. Nautical knots. The bowline, sheep shank, monkey fist... the list goes on.
First Class Petty Officer. United States Navy. Hoo yah! Go Navy! Beat Army!
Perhaps a line from an old Chief early on in my career would fit well during your first session.
*NPC points at ship* "Boat."
*NPC points at sea* "Water."
"Boat goes on the water. Your job is to make sure it stays there. You don't want the boat in, out, over, or under that water. On. ON the water. All other prepositions are invalid. If something you do, or don't do stops the boat from being on the water, congratulations: you had one job..."
Yeah, I really wish Rare had gone with Wizards of the Coast instead of Mongoose Publishing for Sea of Thieves RPG. It would have made a great sourcebook and helped us out in many other ways in regular D&D campaigns.
There is a useful link thats something along the lines of "20 sea encounters", I modified a few of them to fit my PC's island hopping extravaganza chasing some Water Plane Zealots. They loved it!
