Hi all! So every year me and my group do a Christmas themed mini campaign as a fun and wacky little side quest that lets the players test out their more ridiculous character ideas. This year we decided to do a toy story themed one shot that would follow a group of misfit toys who are planning on ruining Christmas due to personal grudges they have either with the kids that own them or with Santa claus himself. The first session would be a kinda session 0 with the players introducing their characters and making the big plan to ruin Christmas, and then the rest would be whatever wacky hijinks they come up with.
I was wondering if anyone had any resources or ideas for potential puzzles, enemy types, or fun little setting pieces that might be helpful for this kind of campaign. Any tips or direction you could give would be appreciated. Thanks!
Thinking on the toy story theme maybe a good challange is to make that a infiltration task, in a way that they must avoid being catched or seen to perform some tasks. Maybe there's a rush of time and the kids, parents, a nanny or even a curious pet are watching home and they should be as much stealthy as they can to reach certain rooms.
Some ideas:
- They could be tasket to switch salt and sugar on the kitchen so they ruin the dinner, but there's a cat around and they must avoid it, than a giant rat in the shelfs would surprise them.
- They must spread caltrops in the fireplace (or another trick or trap for santa) but bats, fire mephits or smoke mephits rise against them.
- The gifts are locked inside a safe before the night but there's a puzzle to open up the safe. When they finally open it, the gifts inside are ready to defend them selves.
- Some of the rest of the toys are eager and maybe can act against them.
- They must plan a fire in the christmas tree but it may seem accidental.
- Maybe they could switch the gifts to frustrate the children so they must convince the new toys inside that they are in the wrong boxes.
You could do a mash with the nutcracker. I did a holiday themed one shot involving the rat king and his wererat minions. If the players are already toy sized, running into the rat king under the Christmas tree or in the pantry on the way to wreck Christmas could be fun. Since the players are the Christmas wreckers, they might even end up teaming with him.
An encounter with the family pet could be fun too.

Only spilt the party if you see something shiny.
