Hi everyone! I'm a new DM and am struggling to find rules about repairing items. Specifically, in STK the party receives a broken hourglass as loot. It has to be repaired to get the gold value. One of my players is proficient with glass blowing tools, so he would like to repair it. Is it just a DC check or time spent to accomplish this?
If you feel there is something interesting to be gained by having a chance of failure for the task, set a DC and call for a check. If you want the time and effort to be not exactly worth it for the pay-out, then so be it. If you want the party to be able to sell or use the item because they cared to keep it even though it was broken when they found it, just let them do so. No answer is more right than any other.

It's whatever you want it to be.
