For my Hoard of the Dragon Queen Campaign, we've just started the long journey from Baldurs Gate to Waterdeep, and I've decided (actually thanks to https://www.npcgenerator.com/) that one of my characters bungles proverbs, but really thinks he's wise. I've started a list of them--hoping to give my players something to laugh at. 

If you have any others, please feel free to add them. I know there are people out there funnier and more creative than me!

Examples:

• Some people see things that exist and ask “why,” I see things that don’t exist and ask, “what is that?”
• The journey of a thousand miles begins when it starts.
• If life gives you lemons, no one says you have to keep them.
• Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Sell him a fishing pole and make a little money.
• You can lead a horse to water, but they’re not good swimmers.

• You can't spill milk without breaking a few eggs.
• Don't bite a gift horse in the mouth.
• An apple a day keeps the grass greener.
• The early bird gathers no moss.
• Birds of a feather all look the same.
• Those in stone houses shouldn't throw glass.
• Fool me once, strike one. Fool me twice, strike three.
