In Curse of Strahd one of Strahd von Zarovich most potent weapons at his disposal is his innate Charm action/ability I see my players trying to counter this with Protection from Evil and Good, a counter I'm thinking Strahd von Zarovich will be keenly aware of, particularly as he very much makes a study of the players characters as he toys with them and as my players characters being a Paladin and a Wizard So swopping out a 3 level slot spell like Animate Dead for Dispel Magic seems very appropriate to me.
Question Dispel Magic by Strahd von Zarovich against a character with Protection from Evil and Good how do I take into account the "Creatures of those types have disadvantage on attack rolls against the target" that Protection from Evil and Good gives with the "Choose one creature, object, or magical effect within range. Any spell of 3rd level or lower on the target ends. For each spell of 4th level or higher on the target, make an ability check using your spellcasting ability. The DC equals 10 + the spell's level. On a successful check, the spell ends." of Dispel Magic ?

Dispel magic isn't an attack and would not be affected by disadvantage on attacks, and since protection from evil and good is a first level spell, no dispel check is required in the first place. However, the easiest way around that protection is to just wait until the spell isn't up, it only lasts for ten minutes.
Oh Dear some rather grim outlooks for my players characters ;) Thanks for the reply Pantagruel666 err... did we chat in yesterdays no show of DnDBeyond twitch Stream chat together?... I had a great chat with someone and I think the user name started with possibly "Pan" and ended with numbers... wasn't paying attention to the name more the conversation and it was late you see... err.. anyways thanks again for the reply

Disadvantage is a DC +5 so assuming Protection from Evil and Good is cast at level 1 do I have Strahd von Zarovich roll a DC 6? for the Dispel Magic to work?
thanks for any replies thoughts
