I saw a tiktok a while back with a cool idea that I've recently decided to implement which I think is a great tool, especially for beginners, to help them learn their characters and game mechanics.
At the start of the session, you choose a random player. They are then presented with a "Cash Cab" style quiz. 5 questions that pertain to their race/class/abilities.
For each question they answer correctly they are given a die that they can use during that session only, and can be added to ANY roll they chose. The dice starts with a d4, then d6, d8, d10 and d12. When they answer correctly they can opt to take the die and stop there, or they can wager the dice to answer another question. If they get the answer wrong, no dice for them.
I'm also playing with the idea that as they grow accustomed to their characters, the questions would be more broad, like recalling past events during the campaign, an NPC name or something to that effect. And if they answer wrong, the DM gets the last dice they won to roll themselves.
Was wondering what everyone's thoughts were on this. So far the group I'm testing this with is pretty new to D&D and really enjoying it.
Keep in mind these are new players. I asked them before we started the campaign if it was something they would be interested in. I didn't force it on them.

As I said, if your players like it. There are lots of house rules that some groups are going to like and others will not.

My players would find that super annoying, but if your players like it...
