Sounds fun. The DMG does have some alternative gun rules in there somewhere. But you can make them up easy enough. I am planning a game with multiple worlds or realities if you will all mashed together and one of them will have an old west theme. So the game will start out with no guns but at one point the players will have the ability to get them going forward. Hope it turns out well. If you need help always ask people on the forums. Some of us nerds love to deep dive or make stuff up.

I live my life like a West Marches campaign, A swirling vortex of Ambitions and Insecurities.
Have you read "Mistborn"? The first trilogy is set in a fantasy-ish world but the second trilogy takes place 300 years later where the oldest is turning into cars and Industry. They have magic and guns. The two main characters both have forms of magic and 6 shooters. It's a lot of fun.

Have any of you attempted a Weird West 5e DnD campaign?
I'm thinking of trying to run Shattered Obelisk in this style.

Yeah but with special magic wands instead of guns.
Rather than post Civil War, I was thinking more like 1830s that should allow the pistol and musket in the DMG without any modification.
It will still have a frontier feel without needing repeating or caseless firearms.
