Some beings on the Material Plane are aware of the existence of the Dark Powers. Some even venerate them, if only out of fear. Only a few are foolish enough to actually seek out a bargain with them.
Roy Gribbleston lived a simple life with his son, Manny. The two never had much, but they survived. Manny’s intelligence was never much to speak of, and he often failed miserably in his father’s eyes due to this. Eventually fed up with his son’s simple-mindedness, Roy sought a more permanent way to solve his problems - a deal with the Dark Powers themselves.
If you can't tell, I like DHMIS. I also like Domains of Dread.
So, there's a podcast (that I'm unaffiliated with) called the Wonderful World of Darklords. It was actually promoted on an article here, and it's pretty good. They turn Disney movies into Domains of Dread, and have DM's Guild stuff and crap
Now that got me thinking: What about other franchises that would make good Domains of Dread? And then somehow I got to DHMIS.
It fits most of the boxes:
An eldritch location.
An enigmatic ruler with less control than he seems
Everything wants to kill/hurt you
If you try and leave, you end up back where you started.
This bizzare British web series is just a surreal Cosmic Horror story.
If anyone is interested in this, I'll update later.
If this isn't supposed to be here for any reason (like copyright issues or crap) or needs to be moved to a different forum section, that's fine. Just wanted to share my random thoughts.
most people online are like beholders. everyone has a different opinion, and they think everyone else has an incorrect opinion. they will fight you over it, usually without thinking. try to avoid beholder fights.
Credits for my profile pic go to Micro Bihon, this guy who does a lot of fan art for the band Good Kid (among other stuff). While I'm at it, listen to Good Kid. They make some pretty great music.
For anyone who's not aware, DHMIS (Don't Hug Me I'm Scared) is a British web/TV series that resembles a harmless kids show. However, in each episode, things suddenly become much, much creepier.
Take Seasame Street, toss it into the "subverted kids franchise" genre, then add 3 dashes of Britishness, a tablespoon of the Twilight Zone, and a cup of the Amazing Digital Circus*. Mix well and serve with aspic. Enjoy!
*it did come out way later, but it's more well known and fits my point.

Now that you mention it, The Amazing Digital circus is basically just a domain of dread, with Caine as the darklord. (Maybe kinda)
ALSO WORKS
but maybe wait until it gets more episodes
Yeah. I made the DHMIS one before TADC existed, and have been so distracted by this that I overlooked TADC's potential. I'll do that one next - if they keep it up/we get more info.

Termina from Majora's Mask, definitely. Hallownest (Hollow Knight) could also work (with some changes), or whatever the world from Cult of the Lamb is (but that might be too similar to Kartakass).
The deltarune lorehunter part of me wants to make one that's basically the Cyber World but during Spamton's peak popularity. I'm having a hard time figuring out if that works or if I'm just trying to make it work so I can do a deltarune campaign.

I'll add it to the list.
