One of my players is temporarily retiring his rogue (arcane trickster) for a short time. The real world reason is that he doesn't feel he can continue the character at the moment/wanting to try a different character. In game reason is that the character is going to become a priest/multiclass into cleric of Deep Sashelas. I am leaving the opportunity for the character to return later. However, I would like to give him at least one magic item, if the character does return, as a gift for completing enough training/re-entering the world. The character is a half elf, if that makes any difference.
Anything water-related would work. Maybe something as simple as a Ring of Water Walking would be suitable, especially as a token of training completion. A Decanter of Endless Water leans more into Deep Sashelas' water magic and might be more useful if your setting doesn't have a lot of water hazards in it.
If you want to give them a minor but thematically appropriate magic item, I would go for a Trident of Fish Command. If you want to give them something very rare and powerful that's still thematic, give them a Tidecaller Trident instead.

After a quick Google of who Deep Sashelas is...
