I'm trying to find or create a character that is a human but has been cursed by a demon to have its own demonic qualities. I guess not entirely different than Wyll in BG3, though the story development is very different.
One of the characters is a kind of hunter, he goes after vampires, werewolves and demons, and this particular demon he's tracking has a distinct part of the players backstory.
I don't know too much about demon/devil lore and I don't really know how to begin, so I was hoping to reach out to the DM's to figure out how I can build or shape this character.
The characters are level 7, so I'm not imagining this character to be a CR 20+ style demon/devil (I mention this because all the statblocks I'm finding are super high).
Please feel free to add ideas or ask questions! Happy to hear anything you got!
Really any fiend in the 5-9 CR range can work for this if you want an easy solution. Just use the monster stat block of the fiend you like and tell the players that it looks like a human with some weird curse. Personally, I like the good old Chain Devil.

"The mongoose blew out its candle and was asleep in bed before the room went dark." —Llanowar fable
Descent into Avernus has lore about the city of Baldur's Gate and the first layer of the Nine Hells, including devils, their goals and behaviors. Demons are chaos and selfishness made manifest. If you go with a demon its motivations can be anything you want it to be. It can be as simple as the demon is creating misery and chaos simply for its own entertainment. If it's a devil then its goal is promotion and contributing to winning the Blood War is a great way to get promoted. Choose whatever fits best with the character's backstory.
How about a twist? The demon was created by mistake and doesn't want to be a demon. It is a creature of misfortune, and unfortunate things happen to people around it. So the hunters come hunting and meet with unfortunate ends. The demon has tried to sequester itself as a result, and just wants to be left alone (or transformed back?).

This is good, definitely want to get into some demonic backstory, thank you!
This makes the most sense to me, I forget sometimes I can just 'reskin' things lol. Thanks for the tip!
