Building my own world which is a mix of forgotten realms with Eberron, and was wondering if anyone else had used the Eberron setting before and what your take on it was. How steam punky did you go? How much of the setting are you using?
II’m particuarly interested in the use of the artificer and arcane technology, along with the slightly less fantastical overall feel.
I think the first thing most people would say is that Eberron isn't really that steam punk at all. I think I read it's actually the creator's pet peeve that people call it steam punk.
Probably what I would recommend is thinking about how you can apply magic to everyday life, then think of the society that would from out of it. When I build limited homebrew settings, honestly, they tend to look a lot like the Legend of Korra. Magic helps shape the technology, and they grow together.
Eberron is less tech and more "how does magic alone solve this issue?" Most of the things they have that seem like tech is really just magic in disguise.

Sorry if that's not too helpful. There is a thread about Eberron in Lore here: https://www.dndbeyond.com/forums/d-d-beyond-general/story-lore/1633-eberron-the-world-that-we-wont-forget
