So in the game I am running I’m stuck on an idea. I plan on having my party cross dimensions. When I do the part I am stuck on is the gods. Say my party had a cleric of Tyr. They then cross dimensions. Would Tyr share his consciousness across dimensions or would there be a Tyr per dimensions? I know as GM I can do what I want with it but I’m looking for discussion to lead to the best story.
So if you are talking about different version of the prime like Abeir and Toril then there is only one of each god but different gods have power over different ones. So a god like tyr might be in dimensions A and B but not C with a different god not necessarily a different version of Tyr having power in dimension C
If you mean the planes then they all have the same gods but different gods live in different ones.
If you mean something like multiple versions of the same dimension as in Toril A, Toril B and Toril C then it would likely be different versions of the same gods as well.

This is more of what I was thinking. Where its only one god but a different version.

In some old dnd books its says that gods are not aware of alternate timelines so it would seem like in lore they wouldn't share a personality but if they did it would certainly make gods see more omnipotent

I'd say that depends on the level of god. Maybe, say, lesser gods are unaware, but the great old one totally knows what's going on... *Plot*
That's really something canon doesn't discuss. However, certain alternate universe tropes (such as the dimension of evil twins with goatees) work better if you have different versions.
What I’m leaning towards is most gods are completely ignorant of variants versions of themselves. The Elder God such as Ao, is aware other dimensions exist but doesn’t share a Consciences or memories with other versions of himself.
Now Great Old ones or gods of Madness I’m leaning towards are not only aware but can get glimpses into other dimensions.

Oh I like that.
