I'm doing a heavily homebrewed version of the Tyranny of Dragons. I need recommendations and things I could add that would enhance the story and make the campaign more interesting.
In the words of the great philosopher, Unicorse, "Aaaannnnd why should I care??"
Best quote from a book ever: "If you love with your eyes, death is forever. If you love with your heart, there is no such thing as parting."- Jonah Cook, Ascendant, Songs of Chaos by Michael R. Miller. Highly recommend
My idea is part of the campaign should have the ever-looming threat of a dragon way more powerful than the pc's, so they have to team up with artificers to build a dragon slaying mech that runs on lost magic and dwarven engineering ending in an epic fight where the mech is destroyed at a point and the players have to finish off the heavily weakened dragon by hand.
You can do this by making ether a stat block that the party gets to control of, or you can make it a magic item akin to the apparatus of kwalish. and ether balancing it to where the dragon is very likely to beat it but also be weakened enough for the players to finish it off. Or you can make an HP threshold where the dragon forcefully overpowers the mech forcing the players to fight it by hand. While risky i would go for the former as the ladder is pretty railroady.
This would accomplish an epic fight between two colossuses but the mech failing will give the players a sense of greater accomplishment when one of them inevitably drives their sword through its head. The stakes for this should be high as well like the whole land around them being scorched through one way or another. Getting the mech should be a quest going all over to find all the recourses to build this thing making a low point and more tension when the mech is inevitably destroyed.
How you fit this all into the campaign is on you, but I think this could really work if implemented correctly.

Baby dragon pet for the party! Have it somehow be involved, maybe a child of a major dragon or just a lost baby. :D
