I made a library that is being run by an amethyst dragon(like in avatar) and I would appreciate it if I could get some ideas for traps. Thanks in advance.
i'm not caught up on my avatars enough to even know which franchise this refers to and i'm unfamiliar with the concept of a dragon running a library. could you clarify? have they claimed it as their lair and pancaked anyone who didn't flee fast enough? or are they simply a stern librarian type looking over their nose at persons coming to borrow a tome, giving them tests and quests and late fees? are you sneaking in and out and therefore subject to additional security measures? is this a private library in a tower or a cave or on a cloud or what? are these mechanical or magical traps like indiana jones might run across or are they puzzley encounters with monsters and levers and trap doors? what's their motivation for trapping and if it's an infestation of kobolds (just asking, maybe they're pesky to a dragon) is there a faction that knows the secret paths like mice in the walls?
In Avatar: The Last Airbender, there is a mystical library which contains all knowledge in the world. It is guarded and overseen by a knowledge god who takes the form of an owl-like dragon creature.
Enchanted Mimics that appear as forbidden or otherwise very appealing books that are under the control of the Amethyst Dragon and attack perpetrators or enemies of the dragon. Or perhaps bookcase shelves that smash into the characters if they touch a particular type of book that the Dragon doesn't want them to read, the books being enchanted to not be destroyed or damaged obviously. Idk sum ideas.

You must file this book according to the Derrick Decimal system. Derrick was Dewey's smarter brother.
You have been accused of eating in the library. You must return to the front door and eat all your rations and drink all your potions. Roll of the potions blow up table.
You dogged eared a book. Save vs magic or have ears of a dog. The dog is of the mutt variety.
An inter library loan states you have been checked out the library. have fun telling nursey stories to Asmodeus grand kids.
A trap that beams knowledge on a specific useless subject into the target's brain, stunning them and/or dealing psychic damage as their mind is filled with facts about potatoes or tax codes or something.
I once homebrewed a Book Golem monster with that ability and when I stunned people I just clicked Random Article on Wikipedia to determine the subject, and I'd read the first few lines in a quick monotone to demonstrate the information overpowering the target.
It is kind of like an amethyst dragon who is in charge of an underground library full of knowledge. The traps are designed to protect the hoard and they are indiana jonesey magic traps. also it is avatar the last airbender
Books that look important and are enchanted to seem important when read... (the character who starts to read the book must make a high DC Wisdom Saving Throw or be charmed, unable to stop reading unless another character intervenes and forcibly closes the book or tears it out of the charmed character's hands.
Fairy Dragons in one section of the library, disabling intruders with their Euphoria gas, so they can be caught later.
Animated suits of armor spaced throughout the library to attack intruders.
Rug of Smothering.
Book Mimics.
Chained Library (Construct from a Candlekeep Mysteries adventure)
A ghost of an author who will find any unfortunate person in the library and start following that person around, loudly reciting his book word-for-word, from the beginning, because he believes his book is a must-read, for everyone.
Sections of floor that will become liquid-like when a trespasser steps onto one, causing the trespasser to fall through to a holding cell below, at which time the floor turns solid again, so any and all trapped intruders are each in their own cell. You could then have prison-themed traps between the cells and the stairway leading up into the library.
As a way to escape the many library traps have them meet a friendly librarian who is also an Orangutan who communicates through charades. If they treat him nicely, he will aid them in their quest and free them from traps. But if they treat him poorly or call him a monkey he will beat their brains out. And then apologize afterwards.
This is based on a Russian Fairy Tale. Have them come across a strange book. When they look at it, they discover that every page is covered in lists of strange sounding words. These words are the true names of a vast array of fiends and spirits. Every name they say summons one of the demons which lurks in the shadows and obeys their every command. But at the stroke of midnight, all the summoned spirits are freed and they will try to kill the party. If the party doesn't have the need to stay there over night, have it be at the end of the next hour. Also, give them a warning beforehand, maybe by the Orangutan. You don't want them to summon 50 demons that they have to fight. But they can't distract the spirits with impossible tasks. Anything they say will be done, the limit is their imagination. If the demons try to kill the dragon though, they will be killed by the dragon. If all the names are read backwards, the demons will disappear.
Have them come across a super exciting book that they can't put down. If they try to read it, they will have to make a Wisdom Saving throw or they will spend all their turns reading the book, unwilling to put it down.

No Gaming is Better than Bad Gaming.
Why would the Library, what motivation does the dragon have. Is this a public library, or a private collection.

Look at Terry Pratchett's L-space.
