Hey guys, I have a problem and was looking for advice.
So I have started DM'ing for my school's DnD Club and things are going pretty good so far, especially for my first time DM'ing. However, my players are close to meeting the BBEG, who I planned out to be a lich millionaire real estate developer who definitely dosent share any traits with any current Presidents. But I just looked at the Lich stat block and realized that it was way too strong for where my players are currently at.
So, does anyone know any possible alternatives for a Lich for players at around level 5-7? I'm stalling the encounter as much as I can until I figure this out, and I can only build this guy's hype up so much!

Hello, I'm Aidan! Your friendly neighborhood CN druid and/or other characters I play. I have a pet pseduodragon/homonculus named Bee who sounds exactly like Chloe Price for unknown reasons and a crippling arson addiction! Working on making new character and practicing DMing.
Youtube channel is Aidantalksfandom, where I talk nerdy sh!t and do lets plays.
A big part will depend on how big the party is, and also the composition of classes and what magic items they might have.
I’d go to the monster page, filter for something around a CR 8 or 9 ish that will work for your group, and re-skin it and call it a lich. Maybe give it a couple zombies or something if you need to fill out the encounter.
A Deathlock Mastermind would fit pretty well, it gets spellcasting and is a decent cr for your party. Alternatively, you could use a Priest of Oysbus in Van Richten's Guide to Ravenloft, which has the ability to come back to life with an altered statblock.

So far, my party is 6 people(Warlock, Rogue, Paladin, Bard, Cleric, Barbarian)

Developers have always lied to sell their product. The biggest real estate scam is Greenland. People wanted their countrymen to move there and Greenland made a nice sell point.
Do not have any Lich stats etc. and do not call him a Lich to give the Party (I assume are semi new) the idea that they fought a Lich. But have Lich in the BBEG name. After the battle , make sure they know that Lich was just a marketing name to make the BBEG sound more powerful.

I really think this is something you should have thought about first. If you want a spellcasting monster, an Archmage is about the right difficulty.
Yeah just use this stat block and then make it undead
