so, im running a feywild MaGuffin hunt through some domains of delight, and i want yall to check 'em out.
The Vying Country. a generic fairytale spooky forest, the home of the archfey known as the fiddler, this domain is based on competition and contests. every creature must compete to survive in some way or another. physical tests, demonstrations of skill, games, love triangles, any contest or competition.
The Sloppy Gloppy Swamp, name unrepentantly stolen from legends of avantris, who got it from candyland. a swamp filled with black oil, home of the Oil Baron, ruler of the boggles, the swamp is their homeland, but they arent the only creatures who live there. various plant and swamp creatures live here too.
Ommatuary, a beutiful garden hill complete with ponds, walking bridges, birdbaths, and a house on top of the hill, but no animals. no living ones. dessicated fish swim in the ponds, rotting birds drink from the birdbaths, this is the home of the wilting lady, a being of rot and decay, who is fascinated by these magical flowers that her touch dosent whither.
I don't much mind the name of the swamp, the feywild is meant to be a whimsical place after all, despite is many dangers. my problem is how little we're told about it. the vying country and ommatuary are such interesting areas and all we know about the oil swamp is that it's full of oil and that animals and plants live there. kinda bland if you ask me.

Having fun? I would hope so. Lets see how much fun you're having after the lich starts dipping into it's 1/day spell slots.
Yes I'm aware my username is completely awful, just do your best to ignore it.

it is mostly meant to be a side area (they met a boggle they formed an attachment to last session, so i want to bring them back), but yeah, it is a little bland. it definatley seems like the kinda place a green hag would set up shop, i might put one of those in there. and i should come up with a theme for it. (competition and a garden without life).
Is this supposed to be a silly game? Because the name of that swamp is not something that can be taken seriously.
im trying to give a broad overveiw of the feywild. it can be beutiful, it can be sinister, it can be spooky, and it can be silly. fey come in thousands of diffrent forms and personalitys, and, if anything, its a translation of its name in sylvan, and something probably got lost
Think about how the emotions of your players will be affected by the surroundings and vice versa. The feywild is a shifting place that responds to strong emotion, and should react to your players almost as much as they react to it.
I like the Ommatuary. Idilic, but with dark secrets and dead things. How big are these intended to be? Because it says "And a house on top of the hill", which suggests that they are fairly contained.
Few questions:
The Vying Country: Who else lives there? Who must they compete with? What is the appeal of traveling there?
Sloppy Gloppy Swamp: Is the land hostile? Are the boggles welcoming or do they do lethal pranks? Is the Oil King a benevolent king or and oppressive tyrant?
Ommatuary: Are the rotten animals dangerous or hostile? Is the land safe to live on (food edible, water drinkable? etc.)? Does the Wilting Lady ignore visitors? Hunt them like the flowers she likes to rot?
Judging by your other post, they are headed to Ommatuary to find the flower that revives people. Are they headed through the other two to get there, or are they just little side areas they have to do stuff in to get the flower? If they have to go through, perhaps portals, then the portals should be guarded by the other arch fey who want something for access to the portal.

you're right. they start in fablerise (an example fey domain from some supplament, where the price of passage is a story), then to the Vying country, where the sloppy gloppy swamp is something of a side area, and they have to beat the fiddler in a contest of their choice to get to Ommantuary.
there are a few creatures in the Vying country. an annis hag named granny gnash (in something of a feud with a green hag in the sloppy gloppy swamp), an ettin where one head tells the truth and the other lies, but they get their bit mixed up. (the two heads are in a perpetual staring contest), and others (i havent come up with them)
in the sloppy gloppy swamp, the boggles are tricksters, and so is the land itself, moving roots to trip people, creating quicksand under their feet, and others. the Oil Baron is something of a tyrant, with a green hag wispering is their ear
the land in ommantuary isnt safe for living-non-plants. the water is semi-poisionious, and there is no safe food. the wilting lady is liable to ignore visitors, but will notice if one of her plants is stolen.
