I'm running the Triboar battle currently with my group (two rounds in, given the number of monsters, NPCs and players), and it seems fairly static. They hit monsters, they hit them back, giants dig... any suggestions on how to liven this battle up, even if they're not mechanical?
I'm thinking about making sure that the NPCs say something every turn, same for the giants. Also thinking about having the remaining Magmins self-immolate towards players or buildings to raise the stakes....
I've run Triboar and Goldenfields. The main thing to remember about Triboar is that while the giants are digging, the monsters are rampaging around the town - the giants explicitly tasked their minions with running interference in town while they dig. While the Orogs might bog down the party in direct combat, the magmin should absolutely be trying to burn down buildings (it's what they do!) and the orcs on axebeaks should be using their mobility to charge down townsfolk. The point of the NPCs is to spread them around town and give multiple goals for the PCs to sort out, and to spread the party thin so they can't concentrate firepower and wreck your monsters right away. If things don't seem dire enough, have another party of orcs on axebeaks arrive from the south (the same ones who attacked farms to the south to draw out the town militia). Combat in 5e can get a little stale if everyone's just attacking every turn, so add some flavour descriptions where necessary. Don't worry too much about overcomplicating things, just try to use the character traits of your PCs and NPCs to give them a laundry list of concerns.

Hello all,

Thoughts? Thanks!
