so, i love making shopkeeper npcs, so i figured id share the wealth.
Crawdaddy
crawdaddy is a crawdad man. in my adventure, he's a fey, but could easily be something else. the crawdadness is important tho. he likes to set up shop in swamps and bogs, and from the outside, his shop is a shack half sunk in the muck, with a hand-painted sign reading 'Crawdaddy's' on the front. the interior is almost laughably lavish, with velvet carpeting, bejelwed curtains, tapestrys emboridered with gold thread, etc., but its all an illusion cast by Crawdaddy himself. in actuality, the shop is as shabby on the interior as on the exterior.
Crawdaddy himself is, as stated before, a crawdad man, dressed in red merchant's clothes, often smoking cigars. i have him speaking in an american southern accent, but that's just what im good at, you can change that as mutch as you want. personality-wise, Crawdaddy is the sleaze to end all sleazes, always haggling and trying to get one over on his customers.
in my adventure, he's a fey, so he only accepts memories as money. specifically, memories of luxury, wich he rolls into those cigars he's smoking, wich gives him visions of the luxury and riches he's always dreamed of, but this could be changed. as for what he sells, he sells a number of items. used adventuring gear, trinkets, and a 'mystery pouch' (a regular pouch he couldnt get open with his pincers).
how does he get this stuff? well, if he spies some quest-hungry adventurers in his shop, he'll tell them about a treasure hidden deep within the swamp. he hasnt gotten it himself because he has to mind the shop, but if they could get it, he'd give them a discount on it, and hands them a treasure map.
the point marked on the map is actually the lair of some powerful swamp monster, and when the monster eat the foolhardy adventurers, their stuff isnt digested, and when the gear is expelled, he gathers it, cleans it off, and puts it up for sale in his shop.
'aight: his name is Ratty, and he runs his shop, Ratty's Nautical Needs from a wooden barrel. a short, greasy looking human man, with a thin mustache and long nose, he pops out of his barrel and shouts at the top of his lungs: WELCOME TO RATTY'S NAUTICAL NEEDS, HOW CAN I HELP YE? He sells ship modifications, such as cannon enhancements or sail extensions for exorbitant prices, and will squeal and pop the lid back onto his barrel before rocking it into the water if threatened. Whenever money is exchanged, he greedily snatches up the gold, and pops into his barrel. (which if opened is somehow completely empty) any service paid for is completed impossibly quickly by the next dawn, assuming you dopn't stay up all night to try and catch him working on it. (a fun little quirk is that he's always nervous around tabaxi, muttering nervously whenever one is around: "uh, yes I can uh... definitely, uh... kitty... fix that right... bad kitty... uh, right up!")

Having fun? I would hope so. Lets see how much fun you're having after the lich starts dipping into it's 1/day spell slots.
Yes I'm aware my username is completely awful, just do your best to ignore it.
Lithogrum, the owner of a used book shop, is a taller thinner caricature of an half-elf. He practically lives in his bookshop as nobody ever encounters him anywhere else. He seems to be the sort of person that has never encountered the real world and speaks of this in an idealized, conceptual sense, rather than as a common person speaks about things he does every day.
His shop is mainly a shop for people to purchase books like cookbooks, or natural books on how to identify plants, trees, birds and such, and things like that. In "The Back" he has old tomes of rare books that he has accumulated for his own collection; books he would only sell at a very high price. He is particularly interested in real history books and biographies, and he references these as he writes his own history of some important place at his desk in the back. He fancies his book as the Untold Real History of the [Blank].
His shop also sells paper, parchment, inks of various kinds, sealing wax, pens and pencil like writing devices that may be sharpened with a good knife. He can arrange to have your pages bound into a book or he can arrange to have a seal made for you according to your design. As such, he occasionally deals with characters seeking magical inks and "dictionaries" of various languages.
If you befriend him as a good customer, or fetching something he will not go get himself (due to some degree of personal risk), he will let you know that he is also a middleman for the purchase and sale of magical items. If you want to sell something, you may bring it by his shop and show him the article and allow him to confirm it seems to be what you say it is. He will "sketch it" and then mark the sketch with a figure that tells him you are selling it. He will then alert folks that have asked about such a thing or alert people he thinks would want to buy it. If he gets a good lead, he will invite them in and show them an illusion of the artifact from the magical drawing he made. Once they make an offer, he will will transmit the offer to you via Sending Spell. If you agree to the price he quotes you, (not the price quoted to him) he will arrange for the sale. If you tell him you are looking for a specific thing, he will use his contacts to seek it out for you.
He has very few magical items in his shop, and these are well concealed. By climbing the steps into the attic space, you might find he has a portal to his home. In his home are the best books and things. His wife takes good care of him because he provides a very comfortable life for them. The home is on the outskirts of the town, with a small front lawn and an impressive garden that she enjoys behind the house. Bordering the back yard are a variety of fruit trees that bloom and produce apples, peaches, cherries, pears, plums and the like. But he is never seen outside his home or bookshop.
