Rolling as a DM not associated with a character

Often, I would like to just be able to roll some dice as the DM, but I cannot see a way to even access the dice unless a character is selected. I don't use the Encounters feature, so is there a way for me to just roll dice and have it appear in the game log, or do I need to create a DM character?

Yeah, it's only available in the character sheet or the encounter runner. (And maybe in maps, which I don't use.)

But unless you're rolling dice for specific character abilities or monsters, the die calculations are usually simple enough that you could just be rolling in a google window.
