Hi all, new DM here, about to run my first campaign. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the sorcerer's wild magic surge table. I don't have a Sorcerer in my group, but I think they'd all get a massive kick out of the kind of shenanigans that would occur from that kind of mechanic. Is there an existing magical item that I can put out there for them to find and enjoy? I've seen the Deck of Many Things, but these are all really low level characters and if some of those monsters appear in front of them they won't last three rounds.
It's chaotic and absolutely hilarious, and for some of the encounters, depending on the level of your players, you can always upgrade or downgrade the CRs

My mother told me once that the stars were heroes whose days have long since passed. And that they burned for as long as someone remembered them. But when people forgot about them, they burned out. So even after they die, they continue to shine for millions of years until they are forgotten. And it is only when you are forgotten that you truly die.

Eggs that cause magical explosions. Geysers of beer. This game is fantastic.
I mean, if you want something very random, you could just hook up a standard wand with twenty charges to the random environmental effects tables in Tasha's cauldron of everything and choose a different environment that is appropriate whenever they arrive to a new area,( you don't need to have it trigger normally), then, whenever they want to use the wand, have them draw a symbol onto a piece of paper, then roll for its effect, with the same symbol always being the same effect, at 1 charge per effect, interesting and by definition very random things will ensue, this'll probably cause a headache at some point so at any given time you can just say that the symbol they draw does nothing, or summons a geyser of beer, you don't owe anybody anything, you're the DM.
The object is based off of ambient magic, which is a homebrew tamer cousin of wild magic, and the wand essentially twists the ambient magic to do things, if you deem it appropriate you can allow them to cast spells through the wand by mimicking orthodox spellcasting gestures. Its essentially a wild magic lightning rod.
“And the Lord spake, saying, 'First shalt thou take out the Holy Pin. Then, shalt thou count to three, no more, no less. Three shall be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, nor either count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three. Five is right out! Once the number three, being the third number, be reached, then lobbest thou thy Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch towards thou foe, who being naughty in my sight, shall snuff it.'"
I really like the idea of a custom “Staff of Wild Magic” that uses the d100 table from the sorcery subclass.
One thing I’ve also thought of since reading the OP is how Rock Gnomes can make a small device using prestidigitation that mimics one of the cantrips effects.
What if a custom magic item did something similar with Druidcraft or Thaumaturgy or Elementalism? Surely this would not be gamebreaking. But instead of intentional it was randomized. The item could only have one effect per day, and it rerolls at a long rest. Could be “Wand of Surprises” lol.

Convert the table into cool magic item like a cursed bag of holding that gives an affect when opened might need some edits though
