We have a small party deep in a dungeon. Unfortunately one of the characters became petrified. I understand Greater Restoration will help, however, the characters do not have that yet. Any ideas to save this character?
If you're the DM, the easiest is to have an item (such as a scroll) that can remove petrifaction findable nearby
Pretty much. If somebody put the petrification source there, they are presumably aware of the hazards, and you could easily justify such an item being nearby.
You could also drop a recipe for how to turn a basilisk gullet into a salve that restores victims of petrification. It's a very well established solution in the DnD lore. Could turn it into a whole side quest if you really wanted too, though that seems like extra work to me.
