The story of I have no mouth and I must scream mostly focuses on how the people have basically no agency and are at the mercy of AM, getting killed and resurrected at a moment's notice. Seems tough to make into a campaign that is fun for the players.
Honestly, you can probably get away with using a bunch of adventures from premade sources then. Just make them all simulations created by your AI, and give the players an interesting "hub world" to explore in between adventures.
I feel like a system akin to Call of Cuthulu might work better, it generally deals with depressing horror better.
You could have the party be stuck deep underground with an AI and forced to slowly watch as it just loses its mind over being unable to escape. Your concept is pretty vague, we need more stuff to latch onto, like themes, genre, etc..
well part of the plot is them going through the adventures (which previous ones are eternally accessible)and figuring out the escape puzzle and like in the amazing digital circus if they believe in something the "simulation" allows hard enough it will manifest but depending on how complex/big it is, the AI (Simulated Intelligent Machine) may flag it and disrupt it
