I’m having some trouble with narrative in my Curse of Strahd campaign and I thought I would try here for help.
One of my characters completed the Dark Gift of the Vampyr. He killed a fellow party member before being struck down by the surviving members of the party. It was an intense session – we’ve been playing this monthly for over two years so everyone is attached to their character.
We’re at the point where the character becomes an NPC. My question is more related to narrative: where to go from here?
I don’t think the Dark Powers would permit this new presence to kill and release Strahd from his eternal torment/prison – Strahd will be forever tormented with different incarnations of Tatiana that he cannot have. I considered having the Dark Powers unleash the new vampire onto the world by releasing him from the mists, but I think he owes the Dark Powers a debt for the gifts they bestowed to him. Another idea would be to give the new vampire his own demiplane or just have him lose a battle with Strahd.
How have other DMs handled this? Any feedback would be appreciated!
There was an older pre-5e module of Strahd that was a sequel to the first adventure. In it, Strahd's self had split in two, the Alchemist and The Beast, one good and one evil. Maybe you could throw some of that in there? Not sure.... Just a thought.
