I'm looking at starting a new group and hosting, and decided to start dedicating an area in the house for the game. I'm planning on buying a new table to play on and was curious about what size table people were playing on to comfortably fit 4-5 players + a DM. The combat map I have is 2ft x 3 ft so it takes up a decent bit of room along with my DM screen + notes / dice.
What kind of tables are ya'll working with and how much room do you typically take up as the DM?
I would get a rectangular table that you can have 2 players on each side, one on the end, and you as the DM would have an end all to yourself. Players generally need enough space in front of them to fit a Players Handbook next to their sheets etc, so width wise, I wouldn't go anything less than 4ft wide (combat map length ways). I'd go for 6 ft long if you can fit it.
