I am aiming to have a small adventure revolving around devils so I can emphasize a point that devils may be around the area, I need a quick plot of an adventure that won't take longer then a session, thanks.
Here's a setup that introduces several devils in the area and one slightly more powerful devil in particular. It also sets up a moral dilemma for the characters to tackle via combat or diplomacy.
-----
In the town where the adventurers are staying, Jasper the washed up aging village drunkard has been exhibiting odd behavior lately. After years of spending his days drunk in the tavern and doing very little with his life other than telling stories of his youth as a decorated soldier, he has begun backing up his boasts with results. When reports came in that goblins were raiding a nearby village, Jasper picked up his dusty old longsword and traveled to the village where the city watch captain claims he saw Jasper demonstrate incredible feats of skill in battle and helped turn the tide against the goblins. Last week when a shepherd complained of wolves stealing his sheep, Jasper was seen walking back into town at sunrise with the pelts of two dead wolves he slew all by himself. Jasper is looking more physically fit and motivated than he has in years. He stopped drinking and started working off the various debts he had accrued over the years of laziness. According to Jasper, he has always been a skilled fighter. He just got the itch to put his sword arm back to work all of a sudden.
What the party doesn't know is that Jasper has made a deal with a devil in the area, trading his mortal soul for a return to the physical vigor of his youth. If the party keeps tabs on Jasper, they will notice he goes off into the woods every day or two. If they ask him about it, he blows it off as just "making his rounds" and will quickly change the subject. If the party tracks Jasper stealthily, they will see he follows an old overgrown path to a ruined shrine in a copse of trees deep in the woods where nobody goes. There he performs blood sacrifices of small animals to stay in the devil's good graces. If Jasper catches wind that the party knows, he will come clean about the presence of devils in the area, but pleads with characters not to tell the locals or kill the devil that has granted him his powers. The devils, now knowing the party is aware of their presence, demand that Jasper take care of the party before they can spread the word to the villagers. Does the party fight Jasper and risk killing a beloved and now-useful staple of the village? Or do they fend him off and try to kill the devil's minions, knowing it will break Jasper's deal and ruin his newfound return to glory?
