So, in previous editions of the game, Fomorians were often at the bottom of the Ordning...but a lot has happened and now they sit as petty conquerers and tyrants in the Feywild as they rule the Feydark. I'm two sessions into running Storm King's Thunder and I've got a hankering to involve a Fomorian Giant Lord trying to bring himself to a higher position than previously held like many of the other rogue Giant Lords of the adventure and associated Adventurers League materials (I dropped 40 on the season 6 adventure bundle and now all about trying to get the party from Night Stone into an encounter with Bad Fruul in Parnast before I drop Zephyros on them).
Though I'm trying to figure out what to do with the magically inclined giants of the Faerie, I mean I could tease one reaching for power by having them being behind the Hobgoblin raiding group in the High Moor that set upon Secomber and the surrounding areas...but I need a personality and persona for such a one bug eyed petty tyrant.
Anyway, first time actually using the D&D Beyond forums since joining two years ago and hoping this place can fill the hole in my heart left over from the halcyon days of the WoTC forums before the move to gleemax and then dashing forums for social media.

MM, p. 149 says "Storm giants are the highest in the ordning, followed by cloud giants, fire giants, frost giants, stone giants, hill giants, and finally giant kin such as fomorians, ettins, and ogres". So it hasn't change in 5e, but that shouldn't matter: your idea sounds great.
Also note: the Realms wiki says "With the Second Sundering and implementation of 5th edition, fomorians' magical capabilities in Faerûn have been greatly diminished."
And Giantcraft says "Most fomorians believe that the prophesied king of giants will be born as a fomorian and will not realize his destiny at first, but when he does, he will be transformed into a giant larger than any titan, and subsequently transform the entire fomorian race also."
