Long story short one of my players has a thieves guild that is experiencing a power struggle. They have to compete in a challenge to regain control. The challenge is stealing from a blue dragon lair. Now the pc can steal whatever but her opponent is taking the dragons egg. Blue dragons are very protective of their eggs, to the point of loving them like a normal family. Once the egg is taken the pc will be blamed and be forced to find the egg or people die. If they get it back then they can pick a treasure from the dragon''s hoard. Fail and towns get attacked by blue dragons.
Why would the pc be blamed? By the other thief? Aren’t they trying to win the challenge and therefore say they stole the most valuable treasure? Wouldn’t a cone of truth settle this pretty easily?
Apart from that, I’m not sure what you’re asking in your post.
Not really asking for anything, it's just an idea Dms could use if they so wished. Also the other thief is pinning the blame on the pc so he can screw them over. Egg is missing, blue dragon goes looking and sees and band of thieves not to far.
This is just my own take. Any dragon would be pissed if one of her eggs was taken, but blue dragons are the most proud dragons of all of them. They have tremendous pride even among the dragons and would be deeply insulted not only by the theft itself, but by the disrespect of the action. If the party knew who the egg thieves were and approached the dragon with a certain amount of respect and deference and appealed to her ego, I can see the dragon even forming a loose alliance with the characters until the egg was returned. If the players were able to return the egg themselves, I can even see the dragon rewarding the players in the form of an item from her treasure horde or a promising them a future favor. And boy I would hate to be one of the thieves who stole a blue dragon's egg after the dragon found out who they were. They are in for quite a shock!
That's what i was going for. I just like posting the dragon ideas cause most of the time dragon encounters are played out as "Roar, breath weapon, now kill me." I just want to give DMs some ideas on what to do.
