I was browsing the DMG for some ideas and my eyes stopped on the Manual of Golems.
A creature that can't use a manual of golems and attempts to read it takes 6d6 psychic damage.
So, my question is, how do we deal with players who just read the whole description of the item? The players just won't bother read the manual at all as they will know there is a "risk".
I guess the only way to deal these psychic damage would be to willingly read the manual as part of the a roleplay thing or maybe have a player fall under a spell to compell him/her to read the manual?
If you are playing at a table you can just read off the parts that they would know off hand, or make an item card with the information of the magic item on it. However, if they use an identify spell to understand how it works, I would say they know all of its features including the 6d6 psychic damage.

Your thoughts?
Thanks!
