I'm going to be running Dragon Heist starting tomorrow and I'm having a bit of a conundrum. I really like the events of the fall season, but I really do like the villain of Manshoon a lot more than the others. The book says that you can switch villains on the fly, but I wanted to ask anyone whose run the game how well that actually works.
tl;dr: How much are the seasons and the villains integrated with each other?
The seasons and the villains aren't integrated at all, as far as I can tell.
But if I understand what you're saying, you don't just want to run Manshoon during the autumn. You want to essentially take the Bregan D'Earthe storyline and replace the drow with the Zhents and Jarlaxle with Mansoon, is that right? I guess I don't see any reason that couldn't work, although I've never tried it. Given the flamboyant nature of Jarlaxle and that the conditions for beating Manshoon are pretty much just proving that he exists and is active in Waterdeep, Manshoon probably couldn't wander the streets partying in disguise.
I decided to ask my players their favorite season and go from there. So far, 2 have said winter and 1 said fall and I have to wait for two more to get back to me.
