hello all, I'm trying to create a homebrew campaign with a futuristic steampunk setting. but i haven't done this kind of setting at all before. it also will contain some time travel to a past about 50 years
the main concept came to me one night laying in bed thinking about why and how Hitler ever got the urge to do the things he did. and then i thought time travel. there was a time traveler, and in his timeline, WW2 never happened but he wanted/needed it to happen. so he went back in time to change history. he confronted Hitler when he was still an artist and embedded the idea that there needed to be a holocaust and he was the one to start it.
so my campaign kinda follows this. there's this time traveler that wants to change history. the party tries to stop him. the party could fail, leading to a campaign where they need to fix what happened or they could have this entire adventure in the past trying to prevent the change in history
It's mostly Homebrew rules/creatures/classes - but it's pretty decently balanced for all that. At the very least, it should spark your own creative ideas.

I recommend you read as much steam punk and alt history as you can get your hands on.
Suggestions:
Hard Magic - Larry Correia
Girl With the Windup Heart - Kady Cross
The Aeronaught's Windlass - Jim Butcher
"Sooner or later, your Players are going to smash your railroad into a sandbox."

"............anybody got any potatoes? We could drop a potato in each hole an' see which ones get viciously mauled by horrible monsters?"

My current setting is "Clock Punk" - sort of steampunk, but at a Renaissance level of technology, not Victorian steam power.
In doing research, I stumbled across this on Homebrewery: D&D 5E Steampunk Compendium V.2
