Howdy fellow DMs. I am writing an arc where a noble was kidnapped so that the villain can find the location of a (somewhat) powerful/dangerous item. I am thinking about using the deck of many things but I feel like it's a bit cliche. What items might ya'll advise? The PCs will be lvl 3 about that time.
Something that the players also want. Look at their needs and wants. They will very much be interested in stopping that villain if they imagine that they might get their hands on the item in question, ring of spell storing for a wizard, holy avenger for a Paladin, my precious for a halfling... that sort if thing.
Maybe it's the item that gives the noble his "right" to rule, like an ancient family heirloom hidden away. Whoever claims it will rule the noble's domain.

Jesus Saves!... Everyone else takes damage.
Nothing gets a pc's curiosity piqued like a treasure map of some sort.
