For those who've read the entirety of the book, and/or are running in it....activity by cultists of the Dead Three is essentially what kickstarts the plot/action. This, in turn, leads the characters to the Vanthampur family which leads, eventually, to Avernus and Zariel.
However, as far as I can tell, the Dead Three don't factor into the story at all after the opening chapter. Is that correct? Neither Bhaal nor the other two of the Three don't affect or really impact the story - especially the potential for Zariel's redemption - at all. Right?
Thanks. I was kind of wondering. Because (to me) it seems like it would make more sense to have demon cultists do the initial murders in Baldur's Gate, and have the PCs' investigation turn up a feud between demon and devil cultists, thus echoing/invoking the Blood War (and thus tying more closely into the entire backstory for Zariel's fall and the climax of the module/campaign). Inserting the Dead Three in the beginning (and even featuring the face of Bhaal in the clouds on the standard cover) makes you think they're going to play a bigger or returning role at some point....except apparently they don't.
