I am about to start a new campaign for my long running group of players, and I am going to try something interesting. I have another friend that wants to play but lives too far away, and he doesn't want to play satellite. So, I'm planning on running the campaign with the players, and then the next day running a single player campaign for that friend. But here's the thing. He will be playing the antagonist in the party's campaign. What they do will effect each other's games. But only the single player will know, the party won't. That way, if it doesn't really work, we can stop the single player campaign without the party knowing. So, any advice to help smooth things up would be greatly appreciated.
It sounds really interesting to me, but I have no ideas or advice about how to make such a thing work. Have you thought about how to handle confrontations between the party and the antagonist? Seems like that would be a problem. I can also imagine that it could be hard to make the game interesting for the one playing the antagonist if their game is only centered around the party of the other players. Anyway, I hope that this way of playing can be made to work and I wish you good luck.
Hmm this is an interesting idea however like Tiny_Goblin said there could be a few problems in the long run, what i would suggest is make the antagonist a very mastermind type villain, controlling everything through minions etc. That way he wouldnt have to confront the party directly, he would just choose what minions to send against them to try and get rid of them. Eventually when you need the party to confront the antagonist in real time try and get the single player on a skype call for the combat etc. Its either that or check with the single player how he would want his character to act in certain situations. Hopefully these are some useful ideas :)
