I'm looking for ideas for minor quests for the players to influence an election for their chosen candidate. For the most part, I'll present them with the election and the stakes, and I'll leave actions up to them, but if they come down with a case of the dumb, I'd like at least 3 short side-quests that an NPC can suggest. First obvious one is gathering proof that Halia is crooked (assuming they choose to support Harbin.) Perhaps finding one of the remaining redbrands and getting them to speak out that Halia tried to recruit them? But then I'm at a bit of a loss, beyond giving the option to spend their hard earned treasure to pay for campaign posters, etc...
Some background is below.
My players, after killing all the redbrands and burning down their hideout to signal it to the world, buggered off and left the town defenseless. Halia (secretly) made a play by allying with a local goblin-boss - the party returned in time to find a goblin hoard overrunning the town, and managed to kill the leader and chase off remaining goblins. They then got into a very public spat with each other, until Sildar came along and hinted that they should maintain some decorum, and that someone is turning the townsfolk against them. While he can't prove anything he suspects Halia of running a whisper campaign against them and being behind the goblin raids.
They've now buggered off again to explore Thundertree. This time, when they return to Phandalin, I want them to find the beginnings of an election campaign - Harbin vs. Halia. Harbin is backed by Sildar. Halia is tying Sildar (and hence Harbin) to the party, and blaming them for the goblin invasion. Should be a fun dilemma for them, since they absolutely cannot stand Harbin, but they also know that Halia was previously hoping to take over the Redbrands and hence Phandalin. Sildar will also clue them in about Zhentarim and how it would be dangerous for them to have so much influence this close to Wave Echo Cave.
