I'm assuming a Wight is just a CR 3 creature and adding zombies adds their own CR right? With Create Dead.... well I guess I was just trying to apply order to madness or something because I don't know why 2 wights, which can have 24 zombies total, can be summoned for the same spell slot as just two Ghasts or five Ghouls. Really I'm just anal and I want to know what criteria they used to make this spell so I don't accidentally nuke it if I homebrew it some.
It's zombies are not counted as part of their CR. If you have 1 wight controlling 5 zombies, then you have 1 CR 3 creature and 5 CR 1/2 creatures on the field.
Note that for a wight to make a zombie, it needs to slay a creature with it's life drain ability. At that point it takes 24 hours for that dead creature to come back as a zombie under the wight's control.
