So when I create a campaign and share the link with someone, can they just create the character and they have all the options I do (I have sharing turned on)? So i need to tell them all how to do the settings? It seems like, for example, if I wanted to disallow the point buy system for ability points, I should be able to do that in the settings for the campaign somehow? Am I missing something? Or do I need to create a level 1 unassigned toon, then they get on and modify it with the options I chose? I guess I don't understand how I make those choices easy for them? Or do I just need to explain it all in the email?
You are correct they would have all the options that you do. The only limiting you can do at this point is through the content management button which allows you as the DM to prevent access to whichever books you select. You could create the "shell" character for them and then have them assign it to themselves. You have the same issue though that they can just go and edit it however they like (changing from point buy to assigned stats as an example).
Normally I just email my players with step by step instructions on character creation through the builder if they have never done it before, or if experienced I'll just tell them the parameters (point buy, no UA etc.).
