So I'm currently running a homebrew campaign, where several powerful groups of mind flayers and their elder brains have joined forces. My party members are all lvl 20, and therefore, I hold nothing back. We are on the final bosses, which are 3 Elder brains that have been buffed up by a Great Old One (basically +150 hp and +5 Ac for all of them), and we have a lvl 20 Mystic in out party. (I allowed a mystic because I figured the mind flayers would make psionic warfare harder.) So we walked into the room, and the Mystic immediately sensed that the Elder Brains are far more powerful that normal ones, so he decides to go full-on Professor X psychic warfare. I was unprepared for this, as I figured he would launch normal psionic attacks and be done with it, but I should have figured. Anyhow, I don't really know how to do that kind of thing, so I figured I'd ask more experienced DMs for advice. Thanks in advance!
(The Mystic is Awakened, and 21 Intelligence thanks to an Ioun stone we found)
Mystics are old UA, but looking through the pdfs I don't see anything that could be "full-on Professor X". What is preventing you from just calling for initiative and then resolving each turn? (Including 3 sets of lair actions for each brain)
Looking through the pdf's again I realize that the mystic could not go "Full on Professor X" so thanks, but what I also want to know is would the illithids regard the Mystic with respect, seeing as both are extremely accomplished psionics, or would they regard him as an abomination?
Up to you, but if you go by the general lore of mind flayers and elder brains it probably wouldn't matter. If your player is the only psionic humanoid they've come across, they might want his brain even more than usual. (To feed to the elder brain so that it can absorb the PCs thoughts and find out more info)
