I have a party that has a huge focus on charisma, having a sorcerer, warlock, brard and paladin all in the same party. I am thinking of giving the party a Tome of Leadership and Influence to see if these, somewhat selfish, individuals could figure out together who deserves to have this book. This could cause some great discussions and drama within the party I think.
I also mean to have this tome be found unused in the pas century. To give the ability for a player to use it. I can understand how the Tome of Clear Thought could be found in possession of an Archmage for example, but in that case the tome would most likely be used in the past 100 years.
I could have a book like this be found in an abandoned library but in that case I fear that the challenge of getting it would be very dull. As they would either have to face a creature that would not be able to read any of the tomes and thus use them. Or they would face a creature that could have used it but then there wouldn't be a reason for them not to have done it.
So I would appreciate some ideas of where they could possibly find these tomes and manuals, specifically theTome of Leadership and InfluenceThanks!
I’d think any ancient dungeon type place could fit the bill pretty easily, maybe a place that had been a bard college or fortress with paladins in it, but that has been abandoned for a while. Or anywhere some unlucky person might have carried it in 100 or more years ago. Or someplace it wouldn’t be used. Maybe an adventurer was carrying one and was killed by a bear in its cave. The bear can’t read, so it just sat on the bottom of a pile of other random crap. Then the bear died, because it’s been 100 years, and something else moved in. Really this works for any beast or creature that’s illiterate. Or in the possession of someone who wouldn’t benefit. Like a fighter, who uses cha as a dump stat, but was holding on to it because they hoped to swap it with someone who had a gainful exercise. Or it might be fun to give it to someone who might have used it. If a warlock had it, but didn’t use it the players may start to question if it’s cursed or otherwise tainted, which could be its own fun.
In the end, it doesn’t matter too much. It can be there because you want it to be there. Unless they stop to question the bear, for example, your players won’t know how it got there, and they’ll be too excited about the new, shiny thing to question it too much. Coming up with, essentially, a backstory for every magic item placement could start to drive a person crazy. Unless there’s a story reason for the item to be in a place, just drop it down and don’t worry about it.
I mean, whoever has it, if they know what they have, uses it right away. Nobody says "I don't feel like doing a two-week juice cleanse for a permanent +2 to CON." I doubt one can reappear for a full day at Candlekeep before a monk snatches it up. So you'll find it somewhere that the possessor doesn't know what they have. Maybe that's a bear, maybe that's the private library of an aristocratic family or a dead wizard. Put it wherever you want.
Dear dungeon masters,
I have a party that has a huge focus on charisma, having a sorcerer, warlock, brard and paladin all in the same party. I am thinking of giving the party a Tome of Leadership and Influence to see if these, somewhat selfish, individuals could figure out together who deserves to have this book. The biggest problem I have with doing this is that I don't know where the party could logically find any of these tome or manuals. (With this I also mean the Manual of Bodily Health, Manual of Gainful Exercise, Manual of Quickness of Action, Tome of Clear Thought and the Tome of Understanding.
I also mean to have this tome be found unused in the pas century. To give the ability for a player to use it. I can understand how the Tome of Clear Thought could be found in possession of an Archmage for example, but in that case the tome would most likely be used in the past 100 years.

Depending on PC levels, maybe face a mage who went insane protecting forbidden tomes in a secret library, now that mage is an Allip!

Maybe the waiting period is conveniently over in a few days
