In the next large city the party will encounter a shopkeep who collects any old strange item. Anything that would be interesting wether it is magical or not. His shop will be a huge mess almost like a hoarders home with both very magical items but also useless junk. Think "Room of Requirement" from the harry potter series (in the end).
What im mostly looking for is what race this person could possibly be. I would like to use a race that might not even be a playable race. This creature is in a dark back ally who hoards strange items.
Is there a good creature that could possibly fill this role?
do you want it to be official or are you good with homebrew? a polymorphed metallic dragon could be one way to go. or possibly and efreet that would barter for more than just coin.
I do want it to be from official material, the creepier the creature the better. Dragons in specific in this setting have long been concidered extinct and the fact they are coming back to the world is a main point in the campaign. So that is not really an option.
A 3 ft. goblin in tattered brown pants with a dirty striped shirt half buttoned and clumsily tucked in. Pretty nice set set of brown hair with white streaks. (for a goblin) You could give him a docile personality, until the players mess with his hoards of items.
A flumph! They re not really interested in the items, but has found that the stranger the stuff they have, the more they get interesting people in their shop. And since flumphs passively feed on psychic creatures they hope the shop brings in some tasty treats.

How about a revenant? Depending on your storyline, you might be able to work in its quest for vengeance in as a sidequest.
A rat folk (pack rat?)
Boldly go

A doppelganger. A kenku would also work since they hoard shiny things.

Thank you for all your replies. I have eventually chosen to use a "Korred". A fey creature from Volo's guide to monsters.
