I am currently running a game based in Wildemount. I need item suggestions for 3 of 4 members of the party. We have a barbarian with a homebrew subclass. He is fairly smart, and doesn't immediately resort to hitting things until they die. There is the college of swords bard that is a bit janky and strange. And the rogue that hasn't rp'd much with the group, they have the ultimate goal of getting their voice back
I've been trying to plan out a Wildemount campaign, too. One idea I've had is to give them Grovelthrash, which would probably work well for your Barbarian. You could also give your Barbarian a Belt of Giant Strength, if you don't think they're ready for an artifact. For your Rogue, the simplest idea would be Gloves of Thievery, or you could give them a Helm of Telepathy, which helps get past the issue of not being able to speak (also helps that you can read people's thoughts). From the description of your Bard, though, it's hard to think of anything fitting without more details, so I'd just go with an Instrument of the Bards.
I have considered Grovelthrash, but I'm not sure i want two arms of the betrayers. The other character made a deal with Asmodeus (they are a profane soul blood hunter) so they will get the Mace of the black crown.
I gave my college of swords bard a +2 long sword that can cast Counterspell as a reaction when holding the weapon and targetted - called it the Mage’s Folly - sister sword to the magicians judge, gave it a back story that following the great calamity an elite enforcer unit was put together and blessed with magic weapons to curb nefarious sorcerers.
Those are both great ideas! I think I will the frost brand idea, and I have an idea for the bard that lets them use more than one flourish per turn, but each one only once. I may make it like a vestige and add the counterspell reaction at the awakened, or I could make the counterspell first, then the flourish at awakened
The problem with casting counterspell with a sword for the barbarian is that when they're raging, they can't cast spells, so this will mostly be useless for them.
I would personally reskin a frost brand as a battle axe, have the damage start out smaller for the dormant tier of play, then eventually gain more powers.

Please check out my homebrew, I would appreciate feedback:
I have it hold one charge that refills at dawn and they can only do it as a reaction to a spell that targets them specifically - so not area effects, healing, buffs.
that kind of nerfs it enough that it isn’t giving them to greater advantage but allows them to more thematically slice like a firebolt in half etc.
My version uses Dex as the modifier for Counterspell to fit with the idea that it is a defensive reaction.
its less that the sword is casting Counterspell more that it has an effect that you use the mechanics of Counterspell to initiate. So I would totally allow a raging barbarian to use that ability without effecting the rage.
you could have it increase the number of charges based on levels or abilities like instead of having 1 charge it has 5 charges but can only hold as many charges equal to dex modifier -1 so if they pile stats into dex it can get more charges

I exist, and I guess so does this

Edit: autocorrect is evil

Have you considered stormgirdle?
Please check out my homebrew, I would appreciate feedback:
Spells, Monsters, Subclasses, Races, Arcknight Class, Occultist Class, World, Enigmatic Esoterica forms
The barbarian is themed around ice. I already thought about that but it wasn't a good fit

A frost brand?

The frost brand is the barbarian. The counterspell sword is for the College of Swords Bard

Oh, sorry, I guess I misread that. Yes, a counterspell sword for a sword bard would be good. (How many times would it be able to do it?)

Probably 1-2. If I'm feeling generous, Ill give it to them at higher level but have it be the Cha mod

My main concern is how good counterspell is for a bard with Jack of all trades
I exist, and I guess so does this
Valid concern. Maybe have the item have a set spellcasting modifier, so they can't use it for this?

I think it's probably fine if I limit the charges
