So, this is such a minor thing, but it excites me to no end. Last night I got to play a game for the first time in about two decades. The last time I was an actual player and not DM, I think we were using 3.5 or maybe 3. I don't recall. One of the people who got me back into it just got into 5th edition and wanted to DM Curse of Strahd. I had such a good time.
It was so weird being on the other side of the screen.
When I started this D&D journey last fall, one of the others in our group was going to DM and I was going to learn 5th edition by just playing it. But he became unable to DM, and so that we could still play, I stepped into that role. I don't regret doing that but... I would dearly have loved to just be able to play and not do all of the work of DMing.

WOTC lies. We know that WOTC lies. WOTC knows that we know that WOTC lies. We know that WOTC knows that we know that WOTC lies. And still they lie.
Because of the above (a paraphrase from Orwell) I no longer post to the forums -- PM me if you need help or anything.
I’ve been a player for a little over a year and JUST started DMing very recently and I am loving it so far. But man, I can’t believe in two decades nobody else offered to DM? I’m pretty lucky in my group we have 3 people willing to DM and that may turn into 4 or 5 eventually possibly, lol. So everyone gets a chance to play.
Happy to hear that! It's a real blessing to be able to just play. Been a DM for about a year now and have played as a player a total of 2hrs. Lol. It's really nice to be in the other side and just play.

I don't play with a steady group, and usually I DM to introduce new players. I am blessed that I can do so as part of my job. Usually they are one shots, but I just finished running a group through Waterdeep: Dragon Heist. Best time I ever had playing as a whole!
I switched to the players side a few years ago and it’s glorious. Just show up with one sheet of paper, don’t have to come up with a dozen interesting personalities for NPCs, it’s not a part-time job worth of prep time every week or so. Of course, lately, I’ve been getting an itch to run a campaign. Ideas for a world have been popping into my head. So I might just offer once the current campaign ends.
Yeah, in the grand scheme of it, I would rather DM, but it was such a nice change of pace. Plus, I got to use my Digital Beyond dice. Won't get that, for now, as a DM.
