I'd like a source that keeps things consistent but gives the players a good bit of gold to work with. By 7th level your character is suppose to be taking on city/kingdom wide problems yet by their rules you can just barely afford full plate. Can't really expected players to RP anything that requires gold if they have to save every silver for upgrades. Anyone have a good system for higher gold distribution?
Following very roughly the recommendations on Chapter 7 of the DMG, by 7th level, your players should have found around 7 CR 0-4 Treasure Hoards + 4-6 CR 5-10 Treasure Hoards... that would already be something like 20.000 Gold in coins plus a ton of gems and art objects, plus magic items.
I have never played a campaign that gave us that much gold. And mostly we've played official adventures. And some Adventure League. To be fair, we have a known stingy DM... ha ha...
As for making things consistent for players, yeah, I would definitely work with the DM's Guide and the Treasure Tables so you can make sure you are following the progression you want. It is laid out pretty well in there.

Yea, the guy that did the math said that he didn't include treasure hoards since sometimes campaigns don't include hoards often.
