I have just finished the main part of the sinister secret of Saltmarsh adventure in the Ghosts of Saltmarsh book. In the book, it says that the town council needs a week to discuss a plan for boarding the smuggling ship (part 2 of the sinister secret of Saltmarsh).
I was wondering if anyone had any ideas as for what the players could do during this week-long period, whether that’s a one-shot in Saltmarsh or some sort of work to find. Ideally this should take up a whole session with some combat in it because I have some DM stuff arriving in the post after this session would come about.
You could grab something like Forge of Fury from Tales of the Yawning Portal (or depending on the character level you could use Sunless Citadel). Forge of Fury can be tied into the dwarves who are setting up mining near Saltmarsh while Sunless Citadel could be placed in the forest a couple of days from Saltmarsh. However, either of these will likely run more than one session.
(I mention these since I am currently running GSM and TfTP as the basis for a campaign based in Saltmarsh. The TfYP adventures give the characters other things to do in town though you have to watch that the characters don't level out of the content or just modify it to be a bit stronger or weaker depending on when your party encounters it.)
Just throw out all the Wildemount stuff and have Manistrad Copperlocks give the quest to the characters. There's already a mine on the regional map. Depending on their level it might be a little tough, but it was easy to make less challenging. My players had a lot of fun with it.
G’day,

I used this as a side quest during my Saltmarsh campaign at roughly the same spot you're in now:
Mimics in the Mine

Oh, that looks good, thanks! I have EGtW and didn’t even think of using those 😅
