I was wanting to pick some folks brains, as I'm not sure if I've miss read anything in the opening Q from the Icewind Dale book. In particular the Cold-Hearted Killer quest. I can't work out the time line.
In the blurb we read to set the scene, it advised that within the last month, 3 murders have happened. Most recent, 3 days ago. When we then meet Hiln, the quest giver, she mentions she has been followed the suspect for a ten-day. Does that mean she saw the murder and failed to stop it?
The text suggests this all happens after the murders, but if the most recent one was 3 days ago, how can she has been investigating for ten days? There are three tendays per month.
I have very pedantic players (in a good way - they are detailed orientated), who I am sure will spot this right off the bat. So I feel like I need to amend the time line. Do you think it is best to change how long Hiln was following/investigating, or change the fact that the most recent murder was three days ago?
Also, I feel like I need a reason why she stopped in the starting town, so I'm going with the fact that she was spotted, feared for her safety and is also getting too old for the life, so stopped - when Torg visited one of the towns closed to where we rolled to start the adventure (Easthaven), like Good Mead, and went on to the next town, to avoid suspicion.
What adjustments to the timeline would you recommend? I feel like the '3 days' is useful, because the murders are on peoples minds, and it builds urgency and agency. Any advice welcome, even if it is just to say, I'm over thinking it.
