i'm writing a campaign where the main villains are a group of drow attempting to take over the surface, this isn't immediately known by the players so i need some quest ideas that subtly hint at drow(or just something from the underdark, they don't have to immediately know its drow) being the ones behind it all, any good ideas

I'd perhaps start with a quaggoth raid on the surface. They are underdark critters, and they have been used by the drow as slaves and troops.
