Running Rime of The Frostmaiden and my players started in Caer-Konig and just finished the town starting quest. They took special interest in the shards of chardalyn on the desk without knowing what they were and then read the note talking about "the search for Chardalyn"
I'm wondering if my players would know enough that the crystals are chardalyn or the history of chardalyn. The module doesn't exactly specify from what I have seen so far.
Also the wizard cast identify on one of the crystals, my question here is would he know that it was created by the Crenshinibon? I ruled it as a no originally considering Crenshinibon is an artifact that created it as opposed to a spell that created it. "If the item was created by a spell, you learn which spell created it."

Thanks for any input you have!
If the crystal is the spell absorbing chardalyn I would tell them that it felt like the spell that is stored in it.
I bet a dwarf would be able to identify Charaldyn, and there’s a chance anyone with proficiency in stonemason’s or blacksmith’s tools would as well.
