New DM here. We're playing Curse of Strahd, and although my characters did some dumb stuff at Madam Eva's tent (managed to make the Vistani mad at all of them except our lawful good dwarf), and although they were rather foolish about it, I got the misty fog to push them toward the death house.
So they're running upstairs to try and save the baby from the 3rd floor. My question is: when they get up there, the suit of Animated Armor is standing against the wall, and there's no way to get around it: "...attacks as soon as it takes damage or a character approaches within 5 feet of it." So if you try to go around it, you're within 5 feet. So it will attack.
For first-level characters, that thing is a beast. It's *super* deadly. My folks have like 10-15 hp, and it makes 2 melee attacks at 2d6+3 plus 1d6 lightning damage, each hit.
How are my folks supposed to deal with that thing? Thanks.
If you're using the statblock for Strahd’s Animated Armor - that's the wrong statblock for this adventure and is a significantly more powerful monster. 😊
That reminds me of what I think was my third session playing. We had a party of 7 level ones, and our DM made that same mistake. We somehow won though, which is crazy. Not really sure how that happened.

The animated armor only attacks for 1d6+2 damage. Where are you seeing 2d6+3 +1d6?

Awesome. You either had a very generous DM or some very nice rolls!
