My players will be leveling 8th->9th soon and I'd like to interrupt the campaign with a one on one one shot spirit journey as it were to mark this transition The player characters are Monk (Way of the Open Hand) & Sorcerer (Red Draconic Bloodline)
Any suggestions on what could be thematic short session?
initial ideas I'm having for the Monk (Way of the Open Hand) are similar to the matrix training scenes with Neo and Morpheus... jump the gap in your mind... harness your inner spirit... Unarmored Movement Improvement At 9th level, you gain the ability to move along vertical surfaces and across liquids on your turn without falling during your move... That could be a cool jump the gap type challenge run across the boiling water... run along the ice wall...
I'm rather more stuck at percent on the Sorcerer (Red Draconic Bloodline)... glimpses of past draconic lives how the path of dragon and human crossed maybe?... taste of power 5th level spells Summon Draconic SpiritImmolation
“It cannot be seen, cannot be felt, Cannot be heard, cannot be smelt, It lies behind stars and under hills, And empty holes it fills, It comes first and follows after, Ends life, kills laughter.” J.R.R. Tolkien, The Hobbit, or There and Back Again
Do they have to be combat-related? Either or both could really work with more of a social encounter. The sorcerer could be visited by the spirit of an ancient red dragon (maybe an ancestor) who announces that now that the character has reached this point, they are finally worth knowing, and could offer to just chat. Maybe offer some cryptic insight into a backstory related issue.

No doesn't need to be combat related at all... yeah I like that idea for the Sorcerer... just have to come up with some interesting ancestral backstory :o could combine it with a ride on Summon Draconic Spirit
